Bratislava Racing and London Training

Swapping jackets for T-shirts, scarves for sunscreen it was an uplifting week in Bratislava under the Slovak skys. Mike and I were certainly glad to have flown out for four days and it turned out to be a great four days at that. Bratislava being the course that hosted the World Championships last year and the place Mikea and I qualified our Olympic places, there are some good memories here and a strong sense of nostalgia. A mere three sessions on the white water before we raced the Slovak Cup (which doubled as Slovak team selections), we had to adjust quickly to the different feel of the water compared with London.

The idea was to get another race under my belt as you cannot replicate that 'startline' feeling in training and it is always a great indication of how training is going. With the 2011 World gold and silver medallists in my field, it was definitely a good gauge.
I raced well and was pleased with where I was at in this phase of the year, finishing 4th Saturday and 6th Sunday, coming back super confident and fired up for this week's training on the Olympic course. Mike also raced really well (finishing 5th Saturday, 4rd Sunday) and overall it was a great few days in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Touching down in London once again, this is the last of a three week block on the course before I head to Nottingham to continue my build.

With less than 95 days to go until the games, our Olympic venue is on lock down with only accredited athletes and officials allowed entry. The grandstands are being erected around the outside of the course and temporary buildings being put up. I visited the Westfield shopping centre which looks out over the Olympic stadium and other venues. It was exciting to see them and it enforced how close the games actually are! Inside the shopping centre I struck upon a New Zealand cafe. I was elated to be in London at a Kiwi cafe, drinking a flat white made by a barista from Auckland. I will definitely be heading back!
